Good Customers--Treated HORRIBLY

Cancelled our membership due to move out of state. Went in and signed cancellation form at club. They continued to charge my card, claiming we never signed the form. We proved to the local club and corporate headquarters we were not living in MI, and had never used the club. We were treated SO poorly. Never in 20 years of exercising have we had such a bad experience. The people in the corporate office were horrible and made us feel like "they didn't need our business". The nicer we were, the more rude they became..........never again will we set foot in a Lifetime Club. They are crooks!

Kept charging account after cancellation and wont refund

I started an account for my father who is non- english speaking. However, after trying it out one time. He felt it was too pricey and we cancelled. I don't have any paperwork of the cancellation now but they had continued to charge him for another 10 months before his cc expired and he received collections calls. I went up to speak with them and they said "yes we see that he had only attended the gym the one time on the day he started the account but we cannot refund your money." Isn't that ridiculous? I really don't know what to do now.

I experienced something similar, only related to personal training. I was charged for personal training I didn't request.

They refused to refund the money and then restricted what the funds can be used for - basically only items/services for which the personal trainer(s) can receive a commission. Your best bet is probably to report your card as stolen the first time you see an unwanted charge.

This is beyond the responsibility of the club. Unfortunately, this is what Lifetime does to its members, as I've been employed at this company for 8 years as an Assistant Dept.

Head. They make it an extremely painful process to receive any sort of refund regardless. Corporate wants their employees to push to the limit to keep our members.

We used to have a "try us free for 30 days," and now it's "Can we charge your credit card $60 and if you don't like us within 7 days we will refund you a partial credit." I'm sorry to see this happen to another member. It shows what a horrible company they are.

Sold membership and charged for 6-7 months with false statements

I was told during selling Lifetime membership that I wont be charged till the day I start there and get myself set up and photo taken. I never joined thinking I am not being charged. I had signed for autopay with my credit card info and they kept charging it. Now they wont even allow me to talk to their GM and telling me that they cannot refund the money. I even asked for the credit of time and they refused that too. Very very disappointed. It seems like a fraudulent transaction and defrauding me of hundreds of dollars

Lifetime fitness sucks - terrible service

Lifetime fitness schaumburg lost a customer of 4 years " for life" yesterday. Here is why...

During the last 2 months I took a position in MI. I commute for 5 days a week and realized I am paying gym membership for a whole month but only use it 2 days a week at best. So on January 28 I went to the lifetime fitness gym and told him that I wanted to cancel my membership. A very nice member advisor called "Fernando" gave me some options. He agreed that I should cancel if I don't use my membership at all. He spoke about all the different ways lifetime could save me money. I was undecided then. He offered to "flex" my membership where I only paid $10 for a month instead of the very expensive $60 a month. This flex would put the membership on hold. This gentleman indicated that I could use the membership as an exception during my flex period just for first month to see how my usage goes. If I believe there value I could come back to the regular membership. I was very delighted. During the period of the Feb month I realized due to my work commitments I am unable to use the membership. I managed to finally come to gym on Feb 28. On the back of my mind, I still did not want to give up my membership since I really liked working out at Lifetime even though it may have been only for a few days a month. So this, I told myself as I finish my workout I should go put my membership back on the "regular" cycle.

As I walked in and displayed that card that Fernando gave the woman ( Michellin or some name like that) was extremely rude, waving the card in my face, calling the policy terms and said basically I cannot use the membership. She said Fernando is no longer with Lifetime and that I was asking to go against the policy. I told her that she was very rude and that it was not my problem that Fernando was not there anymore. I tried to explain what he had told me and I said I would like to speak to a manager.

The manager was even more arrogant and decided that he could make me wait a 20 min. When he showed up, he wanted to talk outside near the entry. I had to tell him that I would like to speak to him in his office. He was very rude, said that he cannot do anything and he was trying to help me but from this situation. I tried to tell him how I got treated outside by that lady swiping the cards. He said, he was not her and he cannot help it. He said he was doing his best and cannot do anymore. He kept repeating what I wanted instead of offering a solution for a problem that I did not cause.

I told him that he lost a member today not because of Fernando but because of his arrogance and lack of empathy with a customer who was very rudely treated. I had come to the gym that day to work out and renew my membership due to the way Fernando spoke to me. Instead I walked out without working out and instead cancelled it. I walked out literally with tears in my eyes. Enough is Enough, I hate bad service.

Maybe all of you need to move to Texas. Because my lifetime is the ***.

A little pricey? Yeah but they also have a butt load of amenities that make it worth it. Like a really nice yoga studio, which is the main thing I go for. The rates for other yoga places in Dallas are around $100-150 which is more than my whole gym membership.

Also, they kiss your *** you don't kiss theirs. Just sayin.

Place is a scam. Canceled membership over phone an paid arrears for <17 year old daughter.

I have been a lifetime fitness member since the club began offering memberships in Canada - November 2011 - though they officially opened in March 2012. Despite the fact that we pay almost double what is paid in the United States, I was happy to join. At some point during the summer of last year (2012), I decided to use my LT bucks and pay for a couple of private Pilates sessions. I love it and from there, I went on to pay for a few more privates, until the cost was too exorbitant for me, so I decided to do group sessions. The cost was still great, but I since I could see the health benefits, I continued paying the high fees for both membership and group Pilates sessions. In early February 2013, I got the flu and it evolved into a bacterial infection. This caused me to miss two weeks of classes - a total of eight sessions which amounted to one group class. I assumed that due to my level of commitment, I would have my sessions moved to the next series beginning in March. No only were the bulk of the sessions not moved (only 2), but my numerous emails, and phone calls were largely ignored by management. In the end, I had to contact the corporate office, and only then did the management team deign to call me back. This call did not involve offering to move my sessions, but only to tell me how it is not their policy to move sessions around for anyone just because they cannot make it. I told him that I was ill and could produce a doctor's note, but they stated that I should do private sessions instead. I found their lack of reasoning to be appalling and presumptuous considering that private sessions are very costly - between 80 and 120 dollars an hour. He kept talking until I finally said thinking he had smoothed away my anger. I finally said that you misunderstand me, I will never take another Pilates session at your club again, because the way you treated me speaks volumes for your level of service and commitment to your manifesto.

In short, we are still members, but will not do another private class again. Horrible customer service - I lost 300 dollars and they simply did not care a whit.

Skokie Lifetime has very douchey faculty. Both male and female.

This guy named Mike and Francis team up together telling each other behind their clients backs "Oh, it's a done deal." Mike with his very good selling methods would suck you into buying it making you his new best friend, once you sign up, he doesn't even remember your face. He promises you certain "exceptions" like 7 days for your guest. He never told me that those 7 days have to be consecutive. Hence, the tag team starts by Heather, the supervisor in the front gives you a hard time by calling up other people and asking why I brought my 50 year old mother to try hydro training.

Francis bullys us and says that we can't do that. I kept telling them Mike gave us an exception by giving us a pass for just a total of 7 days and not consecutive. Nobody believes me. Nobody tries to contact Mike.

Ashen knows, but he doesn't stick up for us. Embarasses us in front of all the members.

My 50+ year old mother was really liking Lifetime until she met those gang members from Lifetime. She and I will never set foot in Lifetime again.

What a BAD experience we had at LifeTimes in Vernon Hills. My husband and I joined a few months ago and wanted to use our LifeTimes dollars toward personal training sessions.

We were promised that we could use at least 100 LifeTimes dollars toward the first hour and a half of personal training. Within 15 minutes of the VERY FIRST personal training session, a very rude and unprofessional "thuglike" dude burst into the fitness office, while the personal trainer was starting the paperwork and asking some basic questions, demanding my husband pay for 4 training sessions up front, cheating us completely out of the LifeTimes "dollars" we earned. My husband had to go down to the locker room, get his wallet, come back up, pay $230 in advance, and lose the first 20 minutes of his personal training session. The worst part was the dude who interrupted was rude, unprofessional, discourteous, and flippant.

When my husband asked the trainer, who was young and inexperienced by the way, for a written list of stretching exercises the trainer replied, "We can't do that.

If we did, how are we supposed to make money?" This was shocking. To say the least we are NEVER going back for personal training sessions there and are thinking of cancelling our membership altogether.

I agree. By having rude, inflexible and classless people working in customer service, this gym has lost a customer for life.

One customer service person at the corporate office nastily told me she was educating me about how things work, before going off on me while I was going through a tough time. Here's some education or her: what goes around comes around.

I hope she never experiences customer service any better than what she gave me. I wish I had gotten the name of that worthless piece of trash, but hopefully she'll get what she deserves someday.

Was planning a Memorial Day at the Flower Mound TX LT pool when we were greeted with a $30 increase in our rate (we've been Gold members for almost 10 years) before we were granted admission just to find out the water slides were inoperative due to "unexpected staffing issues" (really, on memorial day?), After speaking with member services, we were told that we would be sent to collections if we stopped the auto draft on our account. Thank you for finally giving me an excuse to cancel my family membership....

My dad was a guest and Boca Raton club does not have a handicap sign do he took steps and fell had injuries

Lifetime has a sign for not responsible for valuables left in car. No sign to show there is a handicap walkway. My dad was outraged after his serious fall down their wet steps in very poor condition, no slick proof paint was worn off. They had the nerve to offer him a facial in exchange to sign the companies release. We were asked to leave the club because dad refused to sign. I was a member for years and referred many customers that joined and I have not been back because of how their attorney Brian Senger insulted my dad and only offeed $1000. He stills suffers from this negligent injury that Lifetime had the duty to post a sign and manage their steps and rail.

They dont know how to treat their employes

these managers do not care about their employees. just like how the other person said, all you have to do is die and they will try and find a replacement. we go through people like dirty diapers because management feels as if its their way or the high way and thats why people leave. then you have people who work there but dont want to work. but management says things are going to change but of course nothing does. then you have these customers who are completely dirty inconsiderate and selfish about the usage of the gym. we have to clean up after them like grown babies. I CANNOT WORK FOR SUCH AND UNORGAIZED COMPANY. They call us team members but it looks like its every man woman and child for his or herself

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM.

You'll go in and be very impressed by the facility. It is amazing looking. They make promises they DO NOT keep. The kids club never delivers what they promise in regards to programs for the kids and the level of care. And management never knows what is going on. They day care has 200+ kids in it at peak hours with limited supervision. Even the day care workers have commented on how they can stay open with so many kids and so few care givers. You have to come 20 minutes early to moist classes to get your "spot". Then it is very crowded. I have seen people get rolled on in yoga classes from people in poses then fall out of onto other members. I have been KICKED in the head in classes.(accidentally) When you talk to management they have an attitude that you are lucky to be there and they don't care. They charged my account incorrectly 3 months in a row. I spent hours trying to get it corrected and it still isn't correct. This is seriously the least relaxing, most unprofessional business I have EVER seen. Don't be fooled!

The reason Life Time has limited supervision is because our lovely corporate office finds ways to cut costs left and right. This means that the few number of team members and supervisors that are still left are worked to the bone, sometimes without a break.

If a club doesn't meet a profit goal corporate and area directors tell them to keep cutting in order to raise profits.

The level of service you receive has nothing to do with the club. If you see a disgruntled employee, it's probably because they are being overworked and not one person in the building received a raise in years unless the minimum wage went up.

If they overcharged you and sent you a bill in the mail, then that is wire fraud (a felony).

Cancellation policy is a joke

I signed up at LTF of Fridley MN because my employer had some sort of rebate policy with our health benefits. They stressed no contract and so I felt comfortable enrolling.

After a few months I noticed that I wasn't receiving my rebate. I inquired with two LTF employees about my rebate and they both told me that it takes awhile for the monthly rebate to go into effect. And so I wait and wait assuming that I will eventually be reimbursed. I come to discover that whatever rebate through my employer's health insurance no longer applies.

I attempted to cancel my membership on the 3rd of the month and waited over 15 minutes for a sales rep to help me. I left and came back 2 weeks later and was told that even though I haven't been using my membership for a month I would have to pay for another month. I was told that I could cancel at anytime. I explained that I have signed up at another gym and haven't been to an LTF in over a month.

The sales rep stated that they have no way of tracking a members activity. That is BS!! He claimed that around January when every gym is packed that I will want to come back. Thats very funny considering that I can't even get a parking spot and have to circle the parking lot for several minutes looking for a spot every day in January at the Fridley MN LTF.

So whats the difference between the Fridley LFT gym and all the other gyms in January?? What a scam.

Don't believe the cancel at anytime policy and don't listen to the sales reps.

My husband kept getting called by one of the reps, he did agree to come in as she offered him a free pass at the Fridley gym. She assured him it would be left in her folder at the front desk.

He told her he had no wish to join just yet, wanted to check the place out for the day. We arrived, no free pass. No problem I have extras on my membership. But no, we had to wait for the rep to show up.

In walks this lovely gal with high high heals, short tight skirt, hair bouncing makeup going strutting down the hall. She had no recollection of the converstaion with my husband earlier or that she'd been calling him. If we were in a night club I'd have been OK. In a gym one of their business reps dressed like she this?

My husband took one look and said no way am I signing up under her. Is this a person I want me kids seeing as a fitness leader at a gym they attend? We will go to Brady in Maple Grove. No seductive dress, no tricks, he does what he says he will do.

He knows who we are, is genunine and kind. If he says a pass is waiting, it is waiting. When a mistake was made on my billing, he contacted his supervisor who made the adjustment. One email and it was done.

I like the Fridley gym, the classes are great. I keep my son off the main floor as I do not approve of the big screen choices on the TVs for a 12 yr old in any of the gyms. I do wish they had an area that had screens for the tween youth we pay full rates for at LT. I likely will pull my son off the membership, the place does not cater to kids his age unless they are into sports.

It would be wonderful to have parkour, free running kinds of things. As far as reps, Brady in Maple Grove is the top notch. Perry at Fridley is a primo fitness leader and class instructor.

Many more wonderful people too. Awesome we can pick who we liked to work with.

Guest

I used to work in that very dept at LTF Fridley. They lied straight to your face.

They CAN track usage. It takes about 30 seconds to pull it up in the system.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I walked out on NYE 2011 bc I was tired of seeing people (including myself) get screwed out of our hard earned money.

Guest

Went in the other day for a visit. I would have been much happier if they would have given me a free pass and let me explore the gym, but no, they walked me around the gym and showed me everything and then tried to hard close me.. Well that didn't work and I left.

LIFE TIME FITNESS STERLING VA

Updated by user Oct 01, 2012

Not to mention that my partner was hurt by one of their machines that was not completely put together. He is to polite to complain and just told them it happened.

They filled out all neccessary paperwork but did not follow up with him. I agree with all other post on...

Original review Oct 01, 2012
Nathan at customer service has forgot what customer service really is. First he did not listen to anything I had to say. His mind was wrapped around the need to bill me for Sept 2012 when I put my membership on hold for Aug 2012 and was refunded 127.90 and the swim lessons fees for my daughter.

Rick the general manager at Life time Fitness in Steriling VA kicked me out of club due to him saying I was yelling at him. I did not yell until after that. He called cops on me as well. I simply stated he was a liar and that he had comfirmed on the phone I was entitled to the refund. However, he stated it was a mistake and he never said that. He stated I misunderstood and that they did try to refund me but the card I used had not let them deposit back on it. Funny is that I got the $48.00 dollars back on that same card from them for swim lessons.

With all this they sent my parter a bill for Sept and stated it was a late notice. This was for 137.00. I took over the billing in April from my partner. Secondly, to get the family discount I had to state loudly to the salesman that I was *** and had a daughter. I think this is non of anyone's business. We know other couples that go there and have kids. They were appauled to this situation. Best to stay away from this organization. I will put this in Navy times, Washington Post, and other papers until I get my refund and my name is cleared. I would understand if I actually did not pay my bills and owed them something.

If you are thinking about working or using the gym, I hope you know that Rick and Nathan need to watch the movie "The Help" and have a big slice of chocolate pie!

Wow, ANOTHER SCAM... Life Time Fitness Alpharetta,

I signed up for a membership and I was told that I could cancel within 14 days if I wanted to.

Then when I cancelled oon the 12th day they told me because I owed 1 month from my memebrship 4 years ago in Florida. So as this wasn't explained to me I was livid when I was told the 130 dollars to join would not be given back to me.

I tried to call several times and was put on hold .... even by the manager a few times.

They obviously HAVE NO REGARD FOR THE CUSTOMER......

I WAS TRICKED AND THEY KNEW IT !!!

Waiting for the manager - Chris *** to call me back.... 3rd call made already and no return

LIFETIME FITNESS IS RUDE AND TRIES TO RIP YOU OFF

BEWARE! They advertise that there's no enrollment fee, but there is a hefty administrative fee (what's the difference?). I was told, over the phone, I had a 14 day money back guarantee, BUT, I had to join right then and there over the telephone--tomorrow would void my 14 day guarantee. So, I did it and made an appointment for the next day to sign paperwork. When I came in, Jeff Tamblyn (the sleazy, manipulative snake of a sales manager), wasn't there. The front desk guy tried to talk me out of a tour and said I should just go work out. I wasn't comfortable with that--I had some questions and wasn't sure if this was the right gym for me - considering so many reviews talked about overcrowding.

After 10 minutes of waiting, I see the front desk guy look at another employee, point at me and then puff his cheeks out. I've gained a considerable amount of weight in the last 6 months after losing a sibling to cancer, and I'm very self conscious about it. It really upset me and I walked out in tears and cried the whole way home. I never expected to be subjected that that kind of high school ridicule.

I called back trying to get my refund, but nobody would take my call. Finally, I spoke to someone named Dan who was very upset for me and sympathetic. He said he would look into getting my refund and call me back. Dan never called me back. When I called back to ask for him, they denied knowing who he was. Later, I called back and they told me Dan went home. So, I called the Parker facility to see if anyone there could assist me. I spoke to someone named Lauren, who was realy sympathetic and embarassed by the way the other facility was handling this, but she didn't know how to help me, procedurally, so she asked their sales manager to help me. Their sales manager told me that I needed to come in and sign cancellation papers. I asked how that was possible since I never signed enrollment papers. In the meantime, sleazy Jeff Tamblyn is leaving me a voice mail saying that I shouldn't let this situation make me "abandon my fitness goals" and that I needed to get refocused on that. In other words, no refund. I kept calling back and said to let Jeff know that, if I didn't get a refund, I'd file a consumer complaint with the State Attorney General. The employee then threatened to turn me over to Lifetime Fitness's attorneys to be sued. Really?

So, I called back and Jeff never answers his phone, so I couldn't get a hold of him (later, he denied that I ever called him back, although I do have call record saying I called him at 1:30 p.m.). Finally, Jeff and Dan (who never left - the front desk was just lying to me about that) called me back. Jeff did all the talking. Once again, he tried to give me his sleazy, classless sales pitch before denying how I was treated. Jeff said that he didn't know if any of the things I was claiming actually happened. He also agreed that, yes - since I said I was going to file with the Attorney General, Lifetime should be turning me over to their attorneys. I don't think Jeff even knows what a consumer complaint with the State Attorney General is - he kept accusing me of threatening to sue them. He is just another barely educated, no integrity salesman trying to take a buck from anyone he can at any cost.

However, it finally took the embarassment of me confronting him with not knowing the difference between a law suit and a consumer complaint for hiim to finally agree to give me my money back. I also pointed out that, since I never signed any sort of agreement, he had no legal right to hold onto the money.

Bottom line: Do not sign up with Lifetime. The gym is absurdly crowded, the employees are insensitive and rude and the salesmen are sleazy and dishonest! Do not give them your money ahead of time - NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY BECAUSE THEY WILL TRY TO HOLD ONTO IT AT ANY COST

Life Time Fitness is in serious financial health

I am in court on Tuesday with Life Time Fitness. They charge be thousands of dollars in personal training fees with a trainer I liked. When she left they would NOT refund over $7700 in training not used. They also over charged. This is not a customer service issue. I think the company is in serious financial shape. Make sure you dump any stock you have before it goes down further. They do not know they in the customer experience business. There are many other options that have more ethics and not desperate to rip off the customer. To them money is more important than keeping a customer.

Lifetime Fitness - Fraudulent Cancellation Policy

Your company is going into the crapper and I'm about to flush it. Your collection department called me a liar.. With little common sense and follow up they could have found out that the Mason, OH location made a mistake and did not cancel my membership. I'm more than I little upset over this and I'm gearing up for war. I had previously closed my bank account and had past due charges of $194 and I was reminded via email about the cancellation policy. So, I went into your Mason, OH (Deerfield) location and cancelled my membership in February and paid my balance in full. I specifically asked if I needed anything in writing stating that I was cancelled and I was assured that it was completed and that they did not have anything to give me. I cancelled because I was moving to Florida. Three months later I am getting emails stating that I owe another $194. I called the rep listed on the email and explained the situation and was basically called a liar. I don't need to tell you that $194 dollars is a minuscule amount to anyone that is willing to pay your $60/ month membership cost. That alone should tell you that I am in the right here and I am disputing this on principle. The fact that I paid my late balance and never returned to the club should also tell you that I am right. As a business owner myself for the last 10 years, I know how customers should be treated and I also know the power of word-of-mouth advertising.
