I have spent more and more money on trainers that increase my session rate because of their constant increase of their "Level of certification". Come to find out my trainer isn't even certified!

Their levels are based on how much sales each trainer brings in monthly!

Lifetime Fitness Parker, CO Continues to Bill Cancellation Requested

I had to relocate to Colorado Springs from Parker, CO secondary to the fact that my clinical rotations associated to my medical training are located in Colorado Springs. On 7/27/11, I attempted to cancel my membership at Lifetime Fitness in Parker, CO and against my better judgment, was persuaded to suspend the membership instead. My membership was frozen from 8/1/2011 to 7/1/2011. I did not utilize any Lifetime Fitness facilities during this period and I was not billed. I was billed $59.95 beginning 7/1/2011 which I paid 7/20/2011. On 7/20/2011 I requested my membership to be cancelled yet again and was told that it would be cancelled and I would no longer be billed for a service that I do not utilize. A written request was initiated by JJ Salway at the Lifetime Fitness location in Colorado Springs in accordance with their policy. On 9/9/2011 I received a past due notice stating that I owed $119.90 despite a written request for cancellation of membership on 7/20/2011. "Membership Termination: Because we do not use long-term membership contracts, you may terminate your membership for any reason upon advance written notice to Life Time Fitness as provided in your membership contract. See "Service or Program Cancellations and Refunds-Membership" below. Membership. A primary or partner member may terminate the membership (or any member may remove or terminate himself or herself from a membership) for any reason upon advance written notice to Life Time as provided in our membership contract with you. To provide written notice of termination, you must complete a termination request form in person at the center or send a letter request via certified mail (return receipt requested) to the center. We do not accept termination requests by phone, email, fax or online."

Lifetime Fitness and poor cancellation policies

My twin son's used my credit card to signup to Lifetime Fitness as a students. Although they only used it for 3 months during the summer, they continued to charge $10/month for both my son's for this membership. One of my son's just recently got cancelled after one year. Since we live more than 2 hours from the nearest Lifetime Fitness center, the only way to cancel is by certified mail. You can't send an email to cancel or have an online cancellation. I spent over $700 over a year due to their poor cancellation policy. One of my twins used the membership over the summer and specifically told them to cancel on August 31 2011. The GM at a Liftime called me and told me my son had used his membership during August and it takes 30 days to cancel and have not received a cancellation from him. I have been charged for September and October because of their not canceling his membership. Be wary of using recurring credit card for fitness membership.

I am attempting to be an ex-member of Life Time fitness. My husband, myself, and our two children, joined LTF back in March when they first opened.

We used our membership for a few months, but then my husband got laid off from his job. Since he is our only source of income currently, we chose to cancel our membership. This was back in September. However, despite canceling our membership, they continued to charge us for October anyways.

We got a refund after fighting with them, and thought that this issue was resolved but where recently charged for November. We tried to contact several members of the upper management to resolve this issue, and after two weeks of attempting to reach them, someone finally contacted us and said that we would get a refund within a week. It has been over a week now, and we have yet to see a refund. My husband and I have been taking turns trying to get a hold of someone, yet now they are just flat out ignoring us, and our refusing to return our calls at all.

Now we have to cancel our debit card, and get new ones to prevent them from automatically pulling from our bank account every month, "What A Nightmare". We have spoken with my uncle who is a lawyer and we are considering taking them to court. I am going to spread the word to as many websites and people as I possibly can about this. Also their LTF bucks are also a complete joke.

We had over 300 dollars in credit, from singing up with them as well as from a friend referral, and we were hoping to use the bucks for swim lessons, but that never happened. Much like everything else you have to fight with them to get them. They enrolled my children with no problem, but because we were using LTF bucks to pay for the lessons, we became low priority.

So my kids swim lessons starting date went from June to July, to Aug,to nonexistent.I would highly recommend not becoming a member of LTF. If you do decide to join, please do it with extreme caution.

Guest

Don't give your kids your credit card. My kids have the student membership and they made that very clear when they signed up - $10 charge while they are in school and $49 when they are home and using it.

Lifetime Fitness - Nasty Dirty!

At Lifetime Fitness it looks "ok" in the cleanliness department but it is what you do not see that should worry you. I went in a hot tub for the first time in my life and developed a rash almost immediately.

I did not put it with the hot tub until it got out of control and I went to the doctor and within 10 seconds he asked if I had been in a hot tub lately. I said "Yes". He said it was hot tub folliculitis. According to the CDC it comes from severely neglected hot tubs.

It is a bacterial infection.

I once found a smelly stained jock strap on the bench press machine and even saw a sweaty imprint of someones balls on the bench in the locker room. I even saw two dudes blowing each other in the showers and they asked me to join

:( :( ive always hated life time :roll :roll :( :(

Guest

we are members of a life time fitness and the club is outstanding. never had any problems with infections or rashes.

they steam clean the carpets regularly.

the trainers are always wiping down mats and balls. i would complain to the general manager about what happened to you!!!

Guest

I had to complain to Lifetime management when I repeatedly saw the Lifetime employee using used shower towels to wipe down the sinks in the locker room! It does not take a microbiologist to question how much bacteria is on a used towel (can you say "MERSA") that gets spread to the surface of the sinks where people brush their teeth, shave etc. I've not seen this done since I complained but if it happened once........

Guest

there is a gym located in alpharetta Ga and the facilities operator is Cathy Redd and the towels are very dirty. they dont use soap of bleach when they wash their towels Cathy feels as long as they dont have a stain on them who will care what the towel has been thru.

they are also know for having bowel movements in the pool and not shutting the pool down for 24 hrs.

the hot tub is gross you will notice a nasty film of filth around the edges of the pool once its drained. No matter how Cathy Redd is reported she will not be fired

Please accept this formal complaint concerning the unsafe spinning bikes currently used at Life Time Fitness center spinning studio.

Often and again, since I joined your Gym here at Berkley Heights, I, as well as many members have experience total unsafe spinning bikes such as loose pedals, broken SPD clips and broken bike seat clips. And again this morning, I had to walk out from the 8:30 am class because the remaining available bikes were unsafe to ride and with a broken clips. The recurrences of these conditions become intolerable.

When I reported this incident to the facility manager (Paul Russo), he treated me quite badly because I interrupted his abs workout. He was basically screaming at me from the top of his lungs in front of many members, physically blocking me from going home. I do not appreciate the sarcasm and the threatening demeanor that you facility manager expressed towar me. I will be tempted to call the local authority should your facility manger Paul Russo appraoches me the way he did this morning. I ask you to take immediate action in this regards especially when a consumer like me and many others expect safety at your facility when they voice their concerns.

Lifetime Fitness Bloomingdale: cutting classes, equipment out-of-service.

LTF Bloomingdale keeps raising monthly dues every year while cutting group fitness classes. The schedule discriminates against working people who want to take classes in the evening. They also offer nothing for folks over 50 or who have old injuries, joint problems, weakness, or limited mobility. The population is aging but they don't get that. The pool/spa is closed a lot, much of the exercise equipment is more than 8 years old (and filthy), the heating/cooling system in the studios doesn't work right, it often smells like the sewers have backed up throughout the first floor, and yet they spend money on replacing floors that are still serviceable, and installing over $10k of mulch in the parking lots each year. They go through managers like a fast-food restaurant. Something is wrong here.

Raising monthly dues? I'm a member at that club too and my dues haven't been raised. You should look into that.

LIFETIME FITNESS ORLAND PARK, IL

The Lifetime in Orland Park, IL canceled my membership of nearly 9 years. My almost nine years of pure dedication seemed like nothing to them!

Let me start by saying, I have never caused any problems at lifetime fitness, never any complaints or roomers about me in the 9 years that I've been a member. Many people I know have joined the Orland Lifetime Fitness health club because I was a member at that club. Everyone knew my name and always waved, shook my hand or said hello. I never complained, condemned or criticized the club or anyone else. My $60K car was scratched by a lawnmower, I never complained about it. I had to go to the Burr Ridge location for a week or two because of remodeling, backed into a spot and had a steel barb sticking out of the parking stop went through my bumper, never complained. I didn't complain when my son was hurt in child care or when other children taught him a swear words. At 3 years old a child taught him the F word and I was told by a worker it happened, my son was saying that word all the time for months, I never complained. I didn't even complain when my car was broken into during the day in the lot at the club! Many more situations occurred, I could have complained about but didn't. . I have never had a complaint about any of my children and never had been called to the child center for any reason.

Approximately 3 months prior to the cancellation of my Lifetime Fitness health club membership I had a situation where Stephanie Pekoz (child care worker) handed me a sheet of Xeroxed paper that said I was late to pick up my son from the daycare. The note said that if it happened again I would be suspended for two weeks from the club. I explained to her that all of the clocks were off by 5 min to 20 min each and some of them were even broke. Her reply was, "Yea, right, whatever" and she turned away from me. She had known me a long time. I felt she shouldn't talk to me or any patron in this manner.

Stephanie Pekoz has always been disrespectful towards me. After the way she had treated me with such disrespect, not listening to my point about the clocks were off etc. I had decided to call Lifetime Fitness corporation to complain about the clock time differences. In turn the lifetime fitness corp office gave me the phone number to Jim Scurto (the gm for Lifetime Fitness in Orland Park) and corp office apparently phoned the health club as well. I made several phone calls to Jim Scurto, finally I received a return call on my cell phone a day later, coincidentally I was at the club I told Jim Scurto I was at the club, he then went up to where I was working out and we discussed the situation. I explained and pointed at each clock, I said "look at these clocks, every clock is off from 5 min to 20 min and some do not work." I also talked to many people who had the same complaint"

Jim Scurto seemed very withdrawn and did not seem to care about my problem but smiled and looked in my eyes with a blank look as I spoke.

His reply was, "we have got a lot of complaints about this, and we are getting satellite clocks so this doesn't happen". I went on to tell him that rules are being bent for other parents at the club when checking their children in and out (over the 2 hour time limit).

I said why aren't the rules bent for me? Stephanie Pekoz has special friends she checks out if they are late, without them being there, I can prove this. Stephanie Pekoz will hand type people in when they show up to the childcare without scanning the card (mainly people she babysat for on the side). If they are late, she may call for some people over the loudspeaker. I asked why they couldn't do this for me if I was late; Jim shrugged his arms and sneared questionably and said "I agree". I was discriminated against by Stephanie Pekoz (from what I seen and heard) because I didn't cut her hair (like the one lady she gets haircuts from), because she didn't baby-sit on the side for me, because I wasn't a woman or simply because she did not like me. There were two witnesses close that watched and heard that conversation with Jim Scurto.

Jim said "what would you like me to do" (throwing his hands up), I said I would like these clocks fixed for one and I don't want this strike against me if I was not wrong. He said "has Beth Long spoke to you about this yet" I said no, (at this time I didn't know who she was). He said "ya, because she got a call in about something like this" "I'll check it out", nothing more was done, during our conversation he also said that if I want to cancel my membership to give it 30 days from the time of cancellation, etc, appeared like I made a mistake by complaining! Never the less, I had "snitched" on Stephanie Pekoz and she was not happy about it. (a month or so later Jim Scurto was walking around and I said "hey Jim, where is the satellite clocks?" (Being sarcastic) He threw up his hands and said "That's corporation for ya!"

From that day on Stephanie Pekoz and Beth Long Kane had been discourteous, aloof and sticklers to me, never the less Stephanie Pekoz had always been rude, it was clear that they did not like what I had done. Stephanie Pekoz had another reason too, which I will explain later! The day after the conversation with Jim Scurto, Stephanie Pekoz had said "you going to be late anymore?" and smiled. My workout time went from 9:30 am - 2 hour workout to a new schedule of 9:30 am - 1.5 hr so there was no chance I would be late regardless of the clocks all being off I left at 11am. Every time I was around Stephanie Pekoz and Beth Long Kane I can feel the tension in the air, never looking me in the eye, it didn't take a genius to see they didn't like me. One day my son ran up to me at the check in door so I turned around and asked if Beth Long Kane could buzz me out, she took my lifetime fitness card, put it on the other side and said "we use this door to check in, you have to walk all the way around (using her pointer finger) to the other side to get out", "this way the traffic flows" (in a sarcastic tone) although, there were no people checking in or out at that specific time yet I had seen them buzz people out through the in door, aside from that the doors were often broken for moths at a time.. There were many other situations like this with Beth Long Kane and Stephanie Pekoz although I think the idea should be clear so I will not continue on the subject.

Clearly I was being black balled over my complaint. I felt like a target now.

On 11-30-09 I arrived to the health club with my son as usual as I had during the last 3 and ½ years of his life and my daughter before him. On this day there was a cluster (perhaps 4) of children in the check out area (1 in 6 years for me), I was not sure whether the children were coming or going, there was confusion. I had been driving a while (hours) and needed to go to the washroom, bad.

I waited and waited, Stephanie Pekoz was hand writing "something", I asked them if the computer was down again, but Stephanie Pekoz did not answer or look at me, another worker said she had to copy some information. Beth Long Kane was also at the check-in desk just observing. Two computers, 3 people and nothing were happening. I picked up my son and put him over the gate to get him out of the way while I ran to the washroom, Beth Long Kane said "John, you're going to have to wait your turn" in a tone like you would speak to a child. I said Beth, I have been in the car a long time, I didn't think it would take so long I need to use the washroom quick", she looked down at some papers shuffling, I said "is that ok with you", she did not answer me, she shrugged her shoulders and tilted her head to the side, again I asked "I have to go to the washroom is that ok?" She peered her lips together opened her eyes wide and the said "˜Okaa-ay" snyly (as if, if that's what you want, I will mess with you because of this). She could have said no or make sure you check him in but the only word out of her mouth was Okaa-ay, I went to the washroom received a phone call on my cell phone and forgot the entire situation at the childcare. I had assumed they would have check my son in, I should have double guessed the situation. There was no common courtesy from them, no consideration that this has never happened in nearly 9 years, no consideration that they have known me for as long as they worked at lifetime! Why was I singled out? Situations like this have been adjusted for others why not me?

I went to workout, 20 min later Beth Long Kane came up to where I was working out on the floor, she squatted down to my level, less than 12" got in my face and said "you need to go downstairs right now and check Johnny in" (again, speaking to me like I was a child) I said I was sorry I thought they would do it under the circumstances, She said "no, you need to do this now!" (demanding and provoking me), I said you came all the way up here to purposely make me go down and check him in when you have checked him in without the card when I lost one or had forgotten my card at home, she smiled shook her head and said "yup!" I felt like she was going to screw with me as much as she could that day, I felt bad for my son thinking they would mess with him as well. I walked away and said "I bet you got a lot of friends" she said I have tons, as I walked down the stairs I said "I don't think so". When Jim Scurto canceled my membership, he said what I said to her is enough to get my membership canceled alone. If that doesn't sound like a discriminating factor to me! I knew at that point, it was some sort of conspiracy.

I was not happy about this situation. As I walked to the child care I tried to phone my wife on my cell phone to express my frustration. I continued to the child area and said, to Stephanie Pekoz you believe this ***, she's making me check in like this. My phone was froze and I couldn't get out, under my breath I said something that only one that can hear that was Stephanie Pekoz and one other lady who worked at the childcare and it was not about Beth, period.

Stephanie Pekoz has said *** many many times in the childcare center which I find inappropriate as a childcare worker and I also hear her say "***" as when she is talking to the other girls about hours cut, etc. What I might have said is nothing compared to what some of these 4 year olds say and teaches my son! So now Stephanie says to me, "you don't have to swear about it" I said I'm sorry, I'm a little upset (The Beth situation and my phone freezing). Stephanie Pekoz scanned my card, I went back to workout and it was forgotten.

Side note: It has come to my attention that I am not the only one that has had LT membership canceled because of childcare, one very recent, where a man brought his son on a school day, he was provoked into an argument because, Beth came and got him demanding he take his child out of childcare because it was a school day. I've seen other people do the same and not have issues. Rules are bent for some and not others. At the end of the argument this person said F U! to Beth, Stephanie clearly knew about it and clearly had an opportunity to get me! I only spoke to two people about this so far and discovered 3 other cancellations. This could be a pattern, I'm not sure yet.

Between forced cancellations and people closing accounts because they cannot afford it, I had seen more people leave and not many new faces.

When I returned to the childcare I apologized to the other worker, Stephanie or Beth was not there. I was still not happy about the Beth situation but thought I would simply apologize to keep as much peace as possible due to the fact my son would see her nearly every morning (3 – 4 days a week). She was not in her office, I turn the corner and seen her at the end of the hall with her arms crossed, she then smiled and said can you come in here for a second. I enter the last office and thought she wanted to settle our difference.

Jim Scurto was inside and another (I assume) manager was seated. Jim Scurto shook my hand and said, a team member said you called Beth a B and a C (only can guess what a C is). I said wait a minute, I NEVER called her a name and he said "well I believe my team".

I said "I am telling you now, I never called her a name to her face or behind her back", I never said Beth was anything to anyone, not even my wife, nobody, never – You are a ____ or Beth is a ____ never came out of my mouth. At this point I thought we would get the facts straight but Jim was firm and said your membership is canceled. With Beth smiling and sitting on the desk I asked her to confirm what I really did say to her and she did confirm it. I said for saying "I bet she has a lot of friends etc, " they all said yes. As far as who said I called her a B or C, I was never told, I am 99.99% sure it was Stephanie Pekoz. There were no explanations from Jim Scurto. I explained to Jim how the club was mainly for my son, etc. and to reconsider after all these years as a loyal customer who never had one issue, He said "I'm sure he has other things to do" I said, no he does not. He said I have kids too you'll find something. He then said "I am asking you to leave and never come back." This all took place in front of my son, which was tasteless, not good. It was that simple, no discussion, no warning, no second chance, nothing. But a girl getting caught having sex still works out at the club!?

Why should an employee of lifetime fitness be able to disrespect me, talk to me in a degrading manner, talk to me sarcastically or provoke me and say what they want yet I cannot express how I fell. Complaints, discussions or comments are not allowed!?

I thought I paid them for the service, am I wrong? What happened to customer comes first, I never experienced this. With this economy I would think LT would do anything to keep people. This was not a fight, argument or abuse of any kind, she provoked me, I expressed how I felt about her in a non treating way, non vulgar way, a simple sarcastic comment. What is the reason of her complaint about me? I hurt her feelings? I challenged her? I should not have my nearly 9 years at Lifetime fitness taken away because of this "alone". Nearly 9 years of a routine, a habit, a place I get my haircut, supplements and occasion lunch, a place– the only place my son can be with children his age and I can be in the same building, a place where many of my friends and relatives go.

The reason I stayed at lifetime was principally for the childcare and activities for them, plus because he knows most of the children at lifetime he has grown up with, this is our community. There are no children in our subdivision for him. The last days have consisted of TV! How do I recreate a new routine for him this suddenly?? He calls these kids at LT his buddies and keeps asking if we can go back.

There are 4 heath clubs closer to me than LT in Orland, one has much better free weights that I mainly loose and nicer locker room, the main reason I am LT was my kids, and my son is the one affected by this the most. If it not for my kids I would not want to go back where a couple people did not want me.

I had only informed now that there is an alleged clause on a contract that states a GM can cancel a membership at anytime for any reason. I'd like to say, I have never read anything like this, not 8 years ago, not 5 years ago, not 6 months ago, never. Since we joined we never received any contract or terms update. If there was a contract signed with that statement, it was not signed by me. My wife signed us up, she may have signed a contract, and never the less I canceled her membership around the beginning of summer. In any case, I have never read such a statement.

Basically, if you are not liked, or you smell, or you are black, they can cancel the contract? That is discriminating if not third world scary to say the least. I have seen trainers quit and have their membership cancelled because of it; two others had a 6 month suspension while one girl trainer who is good friends with Jim and was able to come beck the next day to work out. There is no consistency.

By the way, I'd like to make very clear that it is well known that Beth Long Kane

and Stephanie Pekoz are very close friends, including FaceBook friends and I have documented that as well!

I'd also like to inform you that there are people having sex in the family changing area, one person got caught, claiming she was just taking a shower and her boyfriend was next, she still has her membership. There are people and trainers selling steroids! I know trainers that are having sex with married woman who belong to the club. Jim Scurto, is going to take a great guy like me, a team player over nothing and cancel me because of "a team members word"? Or is it because I had an opinion?

Part of the issue was due to situations created outside Lifetime and I can explain further if necessary. I was targeted and discriminated against.

I am willing to return to LT mostly for the sake of my son and forget this ever happened.

I was informed on December 4th that there is a new sign in the childcare area that says If you argue with staff you will receive a one week suspension. My friend said he did not read the entire note so I do not know word for word yet. I have also been told Stephanie Pekoz the child care worker that was involved is now saying negative things about me. I cannot believe such a sign would be put up, obviously there are problems with others too. If these workers are mishandling our children we just sit back or get suspended, or in my unique case, canceled? My account was canceled; I guess from now on it is a week suspension.

Jim Scurto, was and remained incompetent since day one. His employees usually ran interference for him

I was about yo signing up family membership but after reading all this no thanks. Hope they go bankrupt

This review is hilarious actually!

Guest

In my opinion a comment to attack the complaint is clearly the person \ business the complaint is about or a simple personal attack against the person who is complaining. Who ever enters a complaint board about a business etc., and the targets the person complaining? Critical thinking (especially for this complaint) would clearly lead the trail back to lifetime fitness orland park.

and now its closed for almost 2 weeks due to remodeling... we got emails we can visit other clubs, how nice to remind us that we can drive 20 miles to get to another club.

Ridiculous. I would expect a pro-rate for the monthly dues from a respectable organization, not gonna happen here. Not to mention that I have to cancel membership in person at the club not via phone. B.S.

And this is quite gross.

I am a creature of habit and used the last shower stall repeatedly on my visit. They are not thoroughly cleaned. There were disgusting boogers on the wall for over 3 weeks. Also every other time I go to the club the hot tubs are empty.

Another complaint, when they are working, there is only ONE jet that is worth anything. Everyone waits around for the one jet, this is NUTS when people have busy schedules.

I have complained about the jet situation about 5 times, nobody cares and nobody does anything. Goodbye lifetime, Im cancelling my membership

Guest

Yes you are a customer but one would think you would have more respect for the guidelines and policies that are there to better serve everyone. Not to mention maybe you should be respectful and courteous to people who are taking care of your children.

Would you treat their day care workers or teachers in this manner? Also you are an adult if you know that the clocks are different and off as you say isn't it your responsibility to make sure you are on time. It is like saying to a cop you didn't know the speed limit and expecting to still not get a ticket. This is petty and immature compliant.

You want to point fingers about inappropriate words but then use them yourself in the day care around your children and the children of others? Give me a break.

I can't believe I'm even giving this club 1 star. It deserves NONE. I am a previous employee of Lifetime Fitness who recently quit after 2 years of working there. Although I was not in a manager position at the club (I was a lifeguard), I got to observe all of the horrible things going on firsthand at there. When I first started working there, I thought it was great that I got a free membership along with working at the club. My whole family had been members there since it opened in our town.

One of the very FIRST thing I noticed was the bad morality and ethics of the club. The sales guys will walk around with families giving them a tour and give them totally wrong information. They say the pool is open 24/7 to kids and adults, which is not true. Then members come and take it out on the lifeguards for enforcing rules. Our pool was always FILTHY i will admit that. Unfortunatley our manager (I had 4 while working there for 2 yrs) is a Member Activites girl who has no idea how to run a pool. She frequently brings her daughter into work, can you get any more unprofessional?

We don't have a permanent maintenence guy so our stuff (whether its in aquatics or not) rarely gets fixed. Instead we have to share him with a club that is a 30-45 min car ride away!

The lifeguards who I worked with were horrible. They thought they could just sit on their butt and do nothing. Many times they would come in hungover. On a few occasions some even came in drunk or high! And my boss was rarely there for her scheduled shift so there was nothing I could do.

I would try to call the General Manager of the club down a few times (because members were complaining) and it would take him sometimes more than 30 min to get down to the pool! By that time the members were on there way to cancel their membership!

Also, and this was a big one. It was widely known that certain employees and Dept. Heads of the club were sleeping around! And these people had families! People would just tell me that was the "real world". I am APPALLED!

Frequent times cleaning out the spas I would find USED condoms! Things I would find in there would make me nautious. As a lifeguard, I can understand cleaning the pool, but we were made to scrub toilets, fold towels, and cater to the member's every need. This would be fine, except it was NOT in my job description when I got hired. I brought this up to my boss, and she said that if I felt that way I could just quit, because she had so many other lifeguards to hire! She threatened me, regardless I did not quit because I needed the job. I was also paid $8/hour starting off and was told I would get a raise in April (I was hired in July). No raise EVER happened after working there for 2 yrs.

Many lifeguards would call in "sick" and not show up for their shift. They would not get punished by our boss at all! And in turn, we would have one less lifeguard for the day, which would make it extrememly hard to keep the members safe (in the summer there would be up to 100+ people JUST in the pool) and the pool deck clean. I have been left outside (in 115 degree heat) for almost 2 hrs. We are supposed to be out there for 1 hr max in the summer.

About my 4 different managers. The first one was fired because she was stealing money from the club. The second one walked around the pool deck and flirted with members while his PREGNANT girlfriend sat on a chair and tanned. Our 3rd boss was another members activity girl who would make us do ridiculous chores if all of OUR cleaning was done. (like go upstairs and clean the workout equipment etc) There is a whole department for cleaning at Lifetime Fitness (called Operations) this is THEIR job, not the lifeguards!

Also, many of the club's sales guys and dept heads are clueless about the pool hours and rules. The front desk would tell members that the pool was open till 8 pm, when it really closed at sunset. Members would come with their kids and be FURIOUS.

I don't blame ANYONE for canceling their membership to this club. It is run by BAD people who only care about money. They could care less about members. I encourage anyone who is reading this to go right now and cancel your membership. Don't give Lifetime Fitness your money, because they clearly do NOT deserve it. This place is filthy and disgusting.

:x I'm a member there too and last year I found out that someone brought Scabies / bed bugs into the spa and the previous director someone named Wally :? refused to replace the foam bedding on the tables...I steer clear of the spa now...Other than that, everything seems okay on the surface..used condoms in the jacuzzi GROSS!

The author of this article is right on the money. Goodyear lifetime is ghetto, a bunch of trash who don't care about having an upscale club, they just want to walk around like they are God's gift to the world. They never enforce any rules and it is worse than a day at Chucky Cheese.

Guest

I agree wholeheartedly. Terrible pay because they can get away with it due to the slow economy.

As a cafe employee I was appalled to see dates changed on food products that should have been thrown out, very dirty cabinets, and refrigerators! It is gross. I will not allow my family to eat at the cafe. I am a very disappointed member/employee.

Since I was scheduled very few hours though promised more when I started, I was not able to keep the place clean on my own. The useless and careless teenagers and assistant manager create more work for the other staffers than any one person can hope to accomplish in one shift.

I had higher hopes for the facility when I began working. I am sorely disappointed and happy NOT to be working there any longer.

A year of cancelled account. Still being charged.

The rudest *** EVER. I am a veteran and am disabled. When my ability to go to the gym lessened due to an unexpected illness I put my account on FLEX. No big deal. I would get healthy and go back. I then noticed that they were charging me full price still. I ended up getting better but I left the country because of work. I went to LT before I left and cancelled my account. NOTE: All the Customer Reps are Rude and Disrespectful. A few months later I noticed that I was still getting charged by them. For the FLEX AND FULL! That was over 130USD a month! I called and got the run around for weeks. Finally they told me they could not cancel over the phone and I would have to send a certified letter or walk in. I told them I lived in Iceland now. I actually had to fly to New Jersey, cancel it AGAIN, and fly back. There were two months after this with the same problem. I have not checked yet but I hope it is gone. All the people there were UNHELPFUL with my issues and did not care. Now I also get emails and no matter how much I unsubscribe I still get them. I email the people and they type back in all caps about how it is on 'my end'. I hate LTF. With a passion. I would rather sit at the DMV next to Department of Labor workers than even talk to these folks.

Lifetime fitness South Austin

80% of the group classes that I have attended at south Austin, the studio rooms have been 85 degrees or higher in temperature. I have complained to manager and I always get the same response...... the instructors have control of the thermostat. Well I have talked to the instructors and they always end up turing the air on 5 mins before class and apologizing about the room being too hot and announce that it is going to be a steaming workout. When you put 70 people in a room to do cardio and the room starts out at 85 degrees, it doesn't cool off. How hard is it to keep the air on at a decent temperature??? This is ridiculous and I am in the process of looking at other gyms and group classes. way too much money to put up with this constantly. Very disappointed!

I have spent more and more money on trainers that increase my session rate because of their constant increase of their "Level of certification". Come to find out my trainer isn't even certified!

Their levels are based on how much sales each trainer brings in monthly!

What a scam! This "healthy way of life company" is only concerned with the HEALTHY SIZE OF YOUR POCKETBOOK!

I take classes there 2-3 times a week, I've always found the temperature to be fine. Sorry to hear that you're not happy with the gym. I like it.

Guest

Gyms are supposed to be a customer service oriented business. LTF in Austin appears to disregard that completely.

They continuously ignore suggestions on problems in the facilities, (like items or safely issues).

It seems the management is directed from corporate to run their business this way. I've been continuously disappointed in their policy decisions that defy any logical explanations.

Lifetime Fitness just wants your money

I joined Lifetime Fitness is Dublin, Ohio after my gym (Sawmill Athletic Club) closed for over a year for renovations. Lifetime seems to be a comprehensive gym that offers cardio, weight training machines and free weights, personal training, group classes, 2 pools, sauna, showers, a spa, a decent cafe, and various other features.

I'd been a member here for 3 years. The facility is very nice and large, but after a while I realized that no updates ever take place. They have the same hodgepodge of equipment that they've had since they opened. There is plenty of quality cardio equipment but the weight training machines are breaking down and there aren't enough of them. The free weights areas are way too small and crowded, and are frequently filled with personal trainers.

Immediately upon joining you are given a free "fitness evaluation" which amounts to a high pressure sales tactic to try to enlist you in personal training. This is an area where they make more money, so it's a priority to them to have as many trainers and clients being actively trained as they can. The trainers, of which they are way too many hanging around, are unfriendly, unhelpful, surly, and generally unprofessional. They engage their clients in programs that are "trendy" rather than beneficial, and appear to be too difficult for their clients to keep up with. The clients usually look pretty silly and frustrated trying to do the "latest and greatest" exercises. They also will cordon off an area to work with their clients, and hog 2-3 machines at a time. Some nights it takes 2-3 times as long as it should just waiting on and avoiding the trainers. I do not understand their unfriendly and unhelpful demeanors. If they're trying to enlist clients, shouldn't they try to be approachable? In particular, a tall skinny older trainer there named "John" will definitely give you an annoyed attitude if you interrupt one of his conversations or web surfing when he isn't working with a client. You can't expect help from them at all unless you're paying them.

Overall the place, from reception right on up to general manager, has become rather *** as if they feel as if you should be honored to be present in their club. A quality service organization should always make you feel as if THEY are honored to serve you, not the other way around.

My kids really enjoyed the outdoor pool at first, but it's nearly impossible to find a place to sit on the weekends during the summer. They need to double or even triple the patio space around the pool. They have the room, it's just concrete, right?

Although fairly new, the club is not really adequately cleaned. The steam room is pretty revolting, as are the showers, especially on the weekends. The cleaning seems to be mostly concerned with cosmetics, rather than thoroughness.

The overall impression that I have is that they will do anything to sign up new members, no matter how crowded the place is already, but do just enough to keep them. That seems naive and short-sighted to me, as any quality organization will tell you that it's more expensive to attract new clients than to retain existing ones. The gym is too crowded, which is causing dedicated members to leave and be replaced by those who only seek nominal participation in a fitness club. Eventually the casual members leave too because they aren't using it enough, which will lead to membership churn and more overcrowding as the sales team tries furiously to replace those that leave.

I have canceled my membership, as have many of my acquaintances there recently. Many of the members that I speak to there are becoming fed up with many of the things I list here, but mainly the overcrowding, lack of updates to the facility, and the overall churlish and apathetic attitudes of most of their staff.

I may rejoin some day after they have fired their GM and get their trainers out of the way.

Hmmmm..I have trained w/ John at this club for 3+yrs now..He has takin me from a 42"waist to a 34"..and declining!! I have seen him in our sessions together refer impolite questions(during our 1:1 sessions, really??)to another staff member who is stationed for such questions-John has been nothing but a blessing to me and my family.

Guest

Same problems in Atlanta with very high pressure sales tactics on my wife to sign up for multiple months of personal training with poorly trained and uncaring staff working under even less competent general management that is never responsive to clients. Get your exercise by running from this business. They advertise that they can get you ripped--more like ripped off!

Big boy pants? What insightful commentary by "Bob" the Lifetime sycophant. Grow up "Bob."

You obviously didn't read my post ignoramus.

Guest

You all joined lifetime for the wrong reason. It is very clean and is far and away the best fitness center out there, try going to Bally's, and it is meant for 'you' to make use of it.

If you do not want a personal trainer, then put the big boy pants on and say no.

If you think for a minute the the Lifetime is not in the business to bring people in, then go home and buy your own equipment; then put it in the basement after you stop using it. What a bunch of whiners.

Lifetime Fitness sux! Try Xsport or Extreme Fitness, nearly the same with better customer service too!

2 yr old's swimming nightmere

At lifetime fitness in San Antonio, TX. I observed a 2 yr old getting swimming lessons.

She cried horribly for over 30 min without being taken out of the pool for a break. I tried to speak to the mother sitting pool side but she would not get off her cell phone. I went to the aquatics office and complained that this child was unhappy uncomfortable and scared and she needed a break. I thought learning to swim was suppose to be fun.

He told me go tell someone else and he walked away. I told the lifeguard on duty and she said oh she always cries. I said well maybe another instructor would be in order, she informed me she was the best they had. She did not care.

I then went to the activities director and told her and she said she would tell someone, whatever that means. It was so sad seeing that baby clutch at her instructors neck. She was in so much distress that it made my heart ache. Shame on all of the people involved including the mother for making that child suffer endlessly.

She was still in the pool when I left. I would never let my child endure this cruel abuse.

As a former lifeguard for Lifetime, I can understand what you're talking about with the mom. The majority of the women at lifetime in San Antonio (not all, but a lot) are rich, have a husband who is never there, and care more about themselves than their children.

I'm not surprised that she a) didn't care that her child was crying and b) that she wouldn't get off the phone. You have to be certified to be a swim instructor, which I was, and some kids are so used to getting whatever they want handed to them that they will cry and whine and complain till you do what they want you to do. The parents get mad when you take them out, because to them you aren't giving them what they paid for. It was "nice" of you to feel sorry for the kid, but in reality, they were probably a spoiled brat who wasn't getting what they wanted.

Lifeguards at Lifetime only get paid $7.50 an hour, which is very low compared to the $10 and $14 an hour wages at private neighborhood pools. Bottom line is, most of the kids are VERY hard to work with, especially with apathetic parents.

their kid. not yours. the end.

As you get older you start to trust your instincts more. And you realize that doing nothing in situations where you could make a difference is not an option.

You see something say something. If my empathizing with a distressed child makes anyone uncomfortable or upset, I really don't give a ****. Children come first always and I will forever advocate for them for they have no voice.

And to you parents that wish I would mind my own business remember its people like me who will come to your child's aid perhaps when your not with your child. It truly does take a village.

Guest

@Mike - I agree with you. I think the majority of the complaints on this site are made by people too *** or stubborn to realize what's actually going on around them, misinterpreting the situation, and then getting mad about it.

In this case, I definitely think the poster should have just butted out. The poster definitely sounds like they have a total martyr complex about this - "Oh, "I was treated so poorly, and all because I had such a big heart and cared about a child!" Get over it and learn to mind your own business.

Guest

This entire web site is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Let's post some inaccurate information and then have a bunch of people jump on the bandwagon to pounce on a company.

I have been in some terrible customer service situations but do not believe that an employee said "go tell someone else" and walked away.

You have been watching too many movies. Get a life!

Guest

I totally disagree on "minding your own business". A good instructor would of been able to redirected the child to have a better experience, especially swimming.

One can seriously be scarred to be afraid of water if not taught well. I am currently taking swim classes with my 2yr old daughter and she was afraid when she first started. The instructors at my daughter's school are well trained and know how to turn a child's scary moment into a happy experience. Lifetime Fitness obviously does not care about "teaching" as it seems to be more of a babysitting service.

Shame on the mother for not tending to her child's needs and shame on the facility on not hiring a teacher in lieu of someone who just knows how to swim.

@ Tamirhosse. I commend you for trying your best to make a complaint.

Guest

I am disgusted to read the post from Jennifer. "Mind your own business" is the most ignorant comment I have ever heard!

So congratulations you are lacking the intelligence needed to be an upstanding citizen! My 2 year old has never been afraid of the water and throwing someone in the water, as you claim your parents did to you, is to blame for your lack of morals and intelligence! Let's all sit around and mind our own business when we see abuse, neglect, or better yet how about we mind our own business when we see a mother kill her child!

Ya that's the answer! So I suggest to you Jennifer, research and get educated my dear so you may become a better person in our messed up society!

I don't know what your problem is but it seems like you should have minded your own buissess. First of all to attack someone for sharing there thoughts is far more close minded than what Jennifer said especially since you have no inside knowledge and therefore your answer is no better than hers. Unless you learn how to truely put an arguemwnt together maybe the internets not for you

Guest

That is not a complaint. When I learned to swim my parents threw me in the pool.

You should have minded your business. When someone attempts something they have never done before they are scared and nervous, especially a two year old.

They will RIP you off! They will double bill you, or allow the personal trainers to double bill you

They are theives - if you use their personal trainers, the trainers will collect money by saying you no-showed - management will say they will refund, but they don't. Also watch out for double billing! That's another fight. There is a reason they will only take your credit card as payment! I had to cancel my credit card after I quit to get them to stop billing me by "accident". Bottom line - Rip off artists! Also, their people are straight commission, and as such don't feel that is is their job to make sure the machines are in good working order - as a paying customer they expect you to do that

Lifetime Fitness Has Poor Customer Service

This is a complaint on behalf of myself, but mostly my mom. I am visiting her for the weekend and she had the idea that we could go work out at the local lifetime fitness club, a club she has been a member of for over five years. Upon entering, I had to fill out some paper work and show my license, which was understandable. After this we were told to wait for a guest services representative. After several minutes, another group of members that had guests got to walk in and use the facilities after filling out the paper work. When we asked why, the woman at the front desk told us it was because they were from out of town. Apparently, since I still have a Minnesota driver's license, it is company policy to try and sell me a membership, even though I only want to use a treadmill for an hour while my mom does yoga. She has run into similar problems when she has brought guests and she had had enough. So she asked to cancel her membership. The membership services representative who was supposed to meet us "right away" came to disparage her to no avail. Finally, while trying to cancel her membership on his computer and telling her she was "wrong" and that I might be interested in a student membership, "Philip" told her that his computer had frozen and he could not cancel the membership. For being a membership services representative, 'Philip' was able to provide absolutely NO services. But this is only part of the problem. Customers should be treated with respect and graciousness at all times...members should be treated that way ten-fold. My mom has been a member of lifetime fitness for the better part of the decade. This means that she has made a commitment to this company and it is guaranteed payment once a month. Yet she gets treated like dirt when she tries to bring a guest every once and awhile, and when she goes to the salon, the staff constantly up-sells her, often without her knowledge. I understand the company need to try to generate more business, but in doing so they lost a once faithful member, one who will tell every friend and family-member that there are better health clubs out there and a "membership" at life time means little to nothing else then being preyed upon every time you walk through the door.

If you want a gym to workout DO NOT join Lifetime. They are a corporation only looking to make money and that is it.

Their personal trainers are told to sell services not to help clients and that's why most people that use personal trainers don't see any changes.

There are kids running around, talking on the phone in the work out areas and no staff member says anything. They are a joke.

Guest

I currently work there and only get paid minimum wage to look after members children. While I do get a free membership for me and my children, and also discounts on services, I don't have to use those and give them my money which I have done for the last 4 years of my employment.

But apparently things like employee satisfaction is not something they believe in. I also have issues with the guest policy--I was even told taht my mother in law who is from the UK would have to join and pay the admin fee plus membership for the 2 weeks she was visiting. Also the fitness classes are always jam packed with no regard for the fire safety number on the wall. Also the child care center is often understaffed and therefore over ratio and we've been told we aren't allowed to have a wait list and have to let children in regardless.

When it was questioned legally, we were told that as it wasn't state certified that they only had "guidelines" and it wasn't illegal to have a 1:20 staff to child ratio (or more sometimes!).

I'm gradually becoming upset by the fact that money seems to be the most important thing at this place and more than likely will be leaving once I find something to replace it. And I'll have no problem telling everyone I know why.

Plymouth MN Lifetime Fitness - Terrible Club & Rude Staff

The only reason I keep going to this club is because my son is comfortable in the childcare. The parking lot is a zoo. The indoor temperature is unbearable during the summer and polite requests to do something about it are not received well. The managers are unresponsive and some are flat out rude. I was basically told today that my request for a cooler workout environment is unreasonable. I pay for a gym membership so that I don't have to run outside in the sweltering heat or bitter cold. The indoor temperature today felt as hot as outside. Plus, to top it all off, on one of the hottest days of the year, they decided to replace all the treadmills that have fans with new treadmills that don't have fans. Nice work. They don't even bother to bring in freestanding fans to offer some relief.

I have been a member since they opened doors in Plymouth. I can see above concerns and complains and I have been disappointed from time to time with manager not taking actions regarding issues mentioned to them.

However, complaining about the temperature at the club!!!!! you may want it to be cooler, I preferred warm (it is an individual opinion!!!). I trust the club to make the right decisions.

Hint....If you you are hot, workout underneath the vents blowing cool air from the ceiling!!!!! :zzz :grin

I really liked the GYM in Maple Grove, the employees maynot like you, but they were professional in how they treated you. I am at a Lifetime Fitness near St.

Paul, and the staff are rude, including the managers who doesn't return phone calls. If you are female, you are harassed by staff and other male members who spend all there time trying to sponge off older women. But I would join the Maple Grove club again. It is beautiful, and the trainer was excellent that I trained with, she help me lose weight, her name is Amanda.I don't wish to disclose the one I am attending now, but will be moving soon anyway.

After reading about the Plymouth, MN location, I am afraid to go there. It may be time to cancel my membership when we move.
